Hughes Telematics Receives California PSAP Certification

Operators provided with detailed electronic emergency and location information from HTI-equipped vehicles

ATLANTA, GA – Hughes Telematics, Inc. (“HTI”), (OTCBB: HUTC and HUTCW), a leader in providing next generation telematics solutions, earned California Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) certification on October 7, 2009. The newly established program enables HTI emergency service specialists to utilize the standard telematics automatic location information display to accept detailed electronic information regarding a vehicle’s location along with crash notification calls. The information is attached to emergency and crash notification calls made from any HTI-equipped vehicle to California PSAPs utilizing the E-911 system.

“The ability to execute emergency and crash notification calls is the cornerstone of our safety and security offering,” said Erik Goldman, president, HTI. “The completion of this certification confirms our commitment to driver safety, allowing us to serve our customers with the most timely and efficient response in an emergency situation.”

To receive the certification, HTI simulated multiple emergency calls, transmitting both vehicle location information as well as the voice call to a 911 operator. HTI systems provided specific latitude and longitude information for these vehicle locations in California, and utilized its telematics system with the Intrado E-911 routing network to transmit the calls and information to the California PSAPs serving those locations.  The call information was then displayed on the Computer-Aided Dispatch system screens providing the PSAP operators with instant location data, specific information about the situation, and a note that the call was from an HTI-equipped vehicle.

This detailed information transmission provides emergency dispatchers with enhanced information, enabling faster response times when emergency assistance is needed.

HTI anticipates a high volume of emergency calls from California, and this certification enables HTI to provide priority emergency response in the time of need. This certification maintains HTI’s position at the forefront of emergency response services.
